Healthier Fried Rice & Tamago

Washing the rice cooker is not my favourite chore, so when I do cook rice I prefer to cook a big batch to last a few meals. We eat mostly brown rice in this house and in my weekly fridge clean out, I found I had a whole batch of leftover cooked brown rice. What better way to clean out the fridge with bits of leftover ingredients by making fried rice. That way I can use up my sugar snap peas as well, hey, fried rice works every single time!

At the same time, I wanted to try out a Japanese omelette ("Tamago") recipe which I found on this site called "How to Make Great Sushi". I like it because  - A. I have all the ingredients already B. It's so darn easy!

Sweet Potato Mash with Home Made Baked Beans

I was at the gym today and I observed that some of the staff had to have really quick lunch breaks. Now, I was at the gym, why was I still picking up food vibes?

Anyway, the point of this story is that even the nice chap manning the front desk had to eat at his desk. I have done it before, and I know how difficult it is trying to eat, type, answer the phone and yes, focus on work while eating. It's really an amazing feat. Most times you have to have food which do not require both hands to eat. That got me thinking about creating a dish which was safe to eat at work, with one hand :D

Just to digress a little, I am a new user on Reddit and have just discovered what the acronym "SFW" stands for. Thank you Urban Dictionary and yes, I am a noob like that.

Cod Fish Noodle Soup

Cod Fish Noodle Soup from Nomsies Kitchen

Hello, happy 1st of July and how was your weekend?

Mine was quite eventful, thank you for asking ;) I had a grand time at the Vamos Festival which was held on Saturday at Newcastle's Highbridge Quarter. It was a real carnival like atmosphere and the smell of various street food permeating the air was oh-so-wonderful. I love how you go to a street carnival where there is a myriad of food stalls and you are trying to pin point which stall a particularly delicious smell is coming from. Then you realise, it's impossible, it is delicious all over. Yum! After the carnival I stupidly stumbled into John Lewis, realised they had a sale on and spent way too much money on unnecessary things.

After all that fun, I wound up having a bit of an annoying cough today. I was really in need of some hot soup to soothe my itchy throat. Nothing spicy or oily to be on the menu.

Since it is a Monday night and I am home alone I was in no mood for time consuming preparations. In fact, I don't think I ever am! Fast, easy and fresh is the way to go I say.

As such, I decided to make a wholesome and throat soothing Cod Fish Noodle Soup. It took me all of 20 minutes to make. Kind of longer than instant noodles from a packet but more nutritious and better for you. When you sauté the ginger, garlic and preserved turnip together, the aromatic fragrance assures you that something good is happening. The hint of sesame oil also adds a nice fragrant punch to the dish.
